A Dallas firefighter who was shot early Monday (February
2, 2008) while walking to his hotel from a suburban
Phoenix nightclub has died from his injuries.
Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Paul Lara said
38-year-old Charles "Chucky" Whitaker died early
Wednesday (February 6, 2008) morning after being taken
off life support. The 14-year department veteran had
injuries to his leg, chest and head.
Whitaker was in Arizona for Super Bowl weekend with
another Dallas firefighter, 43-year-old Reginald Cuington,
who was shot in the leg Monday but suffered lesser
injuries.
Police in Peoria, Ariz., said both men were shot by
someone in a passing vehicle while walking back to their
hotel after the Super Bowl.
